Please find the media below that you would like transferred, as well as additional equipment your project may require. Please note: There is a minimum fee of $25.00 for all orders once they have been received by Visual Roots. All tapes have a minimum cost of $10 each, regardless of the length of the video to be transferred.
8mm and Super 8mm film, 3" reel
Price $10.00
These 3" reels are the most common of all home movies, they have an approximate 4 minute run time. These film strips can become very brittle over time and need to be handled gently. If the film breaks due to age, there will be multiple digital files produced
8mm and Super 8mm film,
6"or 7" reels
Price 6"= $35, 7"= $40
These film reels consist of many smaller 3" reels spiced together. The larger the reel the more 3" reels are included. The goal is to transfer the entire reel as a single digital file.
VHS Tapes
Price $10 per hour of tape (Min $10 per tape)
VHS tapes are some of my favorite things to transfer. VHS tapes can run anywhere from one minute to six hours. Each VHS tape has a minimum cost of $10.00 and a maximum cost of $30.00. The longer tapes will be separated into multiple digital files when transferred.
VHS-C Tapes
Price $10 per hour of tape (Min $10 per tape)
These tapes are a form of VHS tape and require a separate carrier in order to play. Each VHS-C tape has a minimum cost of $10.00 for the first hour and
a maximum cost of $20.00 if the tape is longer than 1 hour.
Hi8 and 8mm Video Tape
Price $10 per hour of tape (Min $10 per tape)
These cassettes are smaller than your fist and have been used since 1990. These tapes were able to record a maximum of two hours. These tapes have a minimum cost of $10.00 for the first hour and a maximum cost of $20.00 if it is longer than 1 hour.
Mini DV Video Tapes
Price $10 per tape
These cassettes are very small and were popular in the 90's and into the 2000's. They were generally only 60 minutes long and very good quality. These tapes have are transferred through a special Mini DV deck for the best quality possible.
DV Cam Video Tapes
Price $10.00 per hour of tape
This professional large format Mini DV video format can be transferred like any other. These larger tapes need to be transferred from a large format video deck. The longer tapes will be separated into multiple digital files when transferred.
Betacam and BetacamSP Tapes
(Not the same beta tapes from the 1980's)
Price $25.00 per tape
These professional grade videos were used by professional videographers and many television stations during the 1990's. They generally were shorter lengths up to 60 minutes. These tapes require special care when transferring.
3/4" U-Matic Video Tape
Price $25 per tape
3/4" tape was used by many television stations and professional Videographers during the 1980's. These tapes were large and are very rare in today's world of video transfer. Their lengths varied, but generally were around 30 minutes each.
Audio Cassettes
Price $15 per tape
Audio cassettes will be transferred as .MP3 files and consist of various lengths on both sides. Each Audio cassette has a cost of $15 for both sides.
64gb Zip Drive
Price $30.00
Average sixed projects will include many digital file when finished. These files will be delivered on an included zip drive. If additional zip drives are required they will cost $30 each. You may provide your own drive if desired at no cost.
1TB external LaCie Hard Drive
Price $85.00
Very large projects may require an external hard drive. This option will be discussed before the project begins. (external hard drive are not included it the original $25.00 project minimum.)
